A ceremony to commemorate the anticipated donation of 100 military vehicles to Ukraine was held in Japan on May 24. A document outlining the three kinds of vehicles included in the donation was given to the Ukrainian ambassador Sergiy Korsunsky by the Japanese vice defense minister Toshiro Ino during the event.

Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida promised the trucks to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy when they met in the Southern city of Hiroshima on the margins of the Group of Seven meeting on Sunday. Additionally, Tokyo has promised to care for Ukrainian soldiers who have been hurt in a Japanese military hospital. Half-ton trucks, high-mobility vehicles, and material-handling vehicles are among the vehicles that they will give to the Ukrainian government, according to the Japanese government.

As part of a new national security strategy that significantly departs from its post-World War II self-defense-only principle, Japan's government is attempting to relax its restrictions on the transfer of military equipment. The donation, which includes 30,000 food rations, is made at the same time. In addition, Japan limits its donations to nonlethal equipment because the transfer policy forbids the provision of lethal weapons to countries at war. Japanese Vice Defense Minister Toshiro Ino added during the ceremony, "We hope the invasion ends as soon as possible and peaceful daily lives return.

Ukraine has received more than $7 billion from Japan. Furthermore, it has welcomed more than 2,000 displaced Ukrainians and helped them find housing, employment, and education—an exceptional occurrence in a nation recognized for its strict immigration regulations. The Acquisition, Technology, and Logistics Agency said that the specifics, such as the number of military vehicles that will be shipped and when they will arrive, are still being worked out.
