On Sunday, May 28, House Speaker Martin Romualdez stated that the House Representatives are set to approve two more laws proposed by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. this week on final reading.
The Philippine Salt Industry Development Bill and the Bureau of Immigration Modernization Bill are the two suggested laws that are expected to be implemented. The Philippine Salt Industry Development Bill aims to revitalize the Philippines' declining salt industry, as the country currently imports the majority of its salt supplies. Meanwhile, the Bureau of Immigration Modernization Bill aims to modernize the country's 83-year-old immigration legislation, the Commonwealth-era Philippine Immigration Act of 1940. It also aims to combat transnational crimes such as smuggling, unlawful recruiting, as well as human trafficking. The law also tries to modernize the compensation of immigration officers. According to the office of the Speaker.
Romualdez also stated, "We are doing our part in supporting the President's socio-economic development agenda by passing these urgently proposed pieces of legislation that would sustain our economic growth and create more job and income opportunities for our people." He also stated, "We are inching toward accomplishing our goal of approving all of these priority measures, thanks to the hard and tireless work of our colleagues."
