The danger caused by climate change this year

 by  Aprille Paula O. Salvino

Side effects of climate change in this year continuously became aggressive, resulting in a possible high risk in humanity  and in our world.

According to the report of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) on its own  174-year record, March 2023 was the second warmest month. The year-to-date global surface temperature (January-March) was the fourth highest on record and according to the National Centers for Environmental Information's (NCEI's) Global Annual Temperature Outlook, 2023 is almost certain (>99.0%) to be one of the ten warmest years on record, with a 96% chance of being one of the top five.

The world's leading climate scientists have warned that there are just seven years left to limit global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius, after which even a half-degree increase will greatly aggravate the dangers of drought, floods, and excessive heat. An international climate change treaty was established in 2015 the Paris Agreement for which the Philippines is a signatory, addresses climate change mitigation, adaptation, and finance. The Paris Agreement's long-term temperature goal is to keep the rise in mean global temperature well below 2 degrees Celsius (3.6 degrees Fahrenheit) above pre-industrial levels, preferably 1.5 degrees Celsius (2.7 degrees Fahrenheit), acknowledging that this would significantly reduce the effects of climate change. It also attempts to help countries in adapting to the effects of climate change and mobilize sufficient funding.

In 2022, the Philippines ranked first in the World Risk Index, indicating that the Philippines is the first of the 193 countries vulnerable to disaster risk due to climate change, according to the global risk index. The continuous rise in global temperature has significant effects on our country, this can be the cause of extreme weather events such as floods, droughts, and super typhoons. As temperatures increase, the effects of climate change become more apparent. Our oceans are acidifying, glaciers are melting, and species are on the verge of extinction according to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) reports.
