A passenger was arrested for opening the emergency exit door of an Asiana Airlines plane during a trip to South Korea on Friday, May 26.

With 194 passengers, the aircraft was flying from the southern island of Jeju to the southeastern city of Daegu. The flight is generally approximately an hour long, and the event happened when the plane was approaching Daegu airport at an altitude of 700 feet (213 meters). Fortunately, the Airbus A321-200 plane landed safely at about 12:40 p.m. (0340 GMT), according to officials. However, the door stayed open during the landing.

The phenomenon caused the air to blast inside the plane, injuring at least 12 people who were sent to hospitals for treatment after experiencing difficulty breathing and earaches due to decompression.

The man, in his thirties, said to the police that he opened the door because he "wanted to get off the plane quickly," quoting the Daegu Dongbu Police Station on Saturday. He also admitted to the authorities that he was stressed as a result of his recent job loss.  According to the Korea Transport Ministry, the individual was detained by police for violating the Aviation Security Act.
