The Department of Health's (DOH) officer-in-charge, Maria Rosario Vergeire, announced last April 12 that experts have already given the go-signal for the second booster of the COVID-19 vaccine to the general adult population.

Vergeire Said the DOH is finalizing the guidelines for giving second booster shots to healthy people aged 18 and above.

The Department of Health also gave assurance that the country has a sufficient supply of vaccines for the second booster immunization of the general population based on the updated emergency use authorization of the Food and Drug Administration and the positive recommendation of the Health Technology Assessment Council, it can already use the vaccines that are now available as a second booster for the general population. Vergeire said that as of March, 23.8 million individuals had received their first booster shot, while 4.4 million had received their second booster shot. The increase in COVID-19 cases in some areas has nothing to do with the approval of second booster shots, Vergeire also said that giving second boosters to the public would strengthen efforts to prevent severe cases and deaths due to the virus. Therefore, the DOH encourages the people to get vaccinated at the nearest vaccination sites in their local areas due to the increase of COVID-19 cases in some parts of the country. However, due to the serious adverse effects of the second booster dose and the possibility that it could be the cause of their deaths, many Filipinos do not want to have the second booster vaccination, so many people are requesting that it not be made mandatory.
