Abu Dhabi: On Sunday, April 16, Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva once again proposed establishing a group of countries not involved in the Ukraine and Russia war that will broker peace. Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva had discussed the issue earlier this week with the leaders of China and the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Xi Jinping, respectively. In Abu Dhabi, where he had just returned from a trip to Asia, the president of Brazil told the reporters that he was attempting to assemble a group of leaders who "prefer to talk about peace rather than war." The group should include states that are not "encouraging" violence, the president stressed, and those that are sending weapons should be persuaded to stop. Lastly, President Lula da Silva stated that the group of nations should have no connection to the conflict between Russia and Ukraine, as well as the US and EU, in order to persuade people that peace is the best approach to starting a conversation. Lula da Silva, who has been critical with the role of the United States and European Union in providing weapons and other support to Ukraine ever since the war started a year ago, stated "I think we need to sit at a table and say, "That's enough, let's start talking, because war has never brought and will never bring any benefit to humanity". He also added that the decision to start a war was "made by two countries." Source from (2023, April 17). Brazil's Lula calls for 'peace group' to broker Ukraine-Russia deal. CNA.
